Who is Swiss Music Export?
- Since 2003, SME has been promoting Swiss artists and bands producing anything that can be construed as “pop” music and trying to make it outside Switzerland.
- SME focuses on artists with a realistic chance on their target market, mainly in Europe, and particularly in its German- and French-speaking regions.
- SME is a joint venture of Pro Helvetia, the Foundation of the Swiss Phonogram Producers, the Fondation SUISA, the CMA Foundation, the Migros Culture Percentage and the Swiss Performers Foundation, and enjoys the support of other partners on an ad-hoc basis.
- SME collaborates closely with its partners and encourages networking.
What does Swiss Music Export do?
- SME promotes Swiss acts to festival organizers.
- SME attends fairs and festivals.
- SME organizes its own events and showcases.
- SME provides logistical and/or financial support to tours and showcases involving Swiss acts.
- SME offers advice to those seeking foreign partners (labels, booking, licences, distributors etc.)
- SME organizes workshops and informational events.
- SME invites European exponents to events at which they can get to know Swiss acts.
- SME provides information on the activities of Swiss artists.
- SME publishes a monthly newsletter for European industry insiders.
How does an artist get support from SME?
Music with clear export potential and a plausible export plan is eligible for support both advisory (the search for a label, distributor or agent, publishing and licensing issues etc.) and financial (showcases, promo campaigns etc.).
Artists may send their info to SME (CD and release or tour plans) and, with SME approval, submit an application together with a complete budget. There are no deadlines, but financial resources are limited. For further information please contact our offices, either in Zurich or in Nyon.
