m4music: 25 to 28 March 2010 in Zurich & Lausanne

From 25 to 28 March the Migros Culture Percentage will hold m4music, its pop festival, in Zurich and Lausanne, offering some 30 live concerts, a conference with roundtable discussions and workshops, and the demotape clinic for up-and-coming young musicians.

And once again, Swiss Music Export is part of the action in both festival cities, building networks and connecting people. In addition to its traditional invitation-only “Business Brunch” it will also stage a brainstorming session dedicated to getting Swiss music to Germany.

Workshop: “How can Swiss artists catch a break in Germany?”

Sa 27 March 2010 – Moods (Zurich) – 1 pm - 2.30 pm

PRESENTED BY SWISS MUSIC EXPORT

After the US and Japan, Germany is the world’s third largest market for music – and Switzerland’s most important trading partner by far. Nevertheless, Swiss artists looking to establish a foothold in their neighbour to the north don't have it easy. Swiss managers and German tour and label promoters discuss possible ways in to the German market with examples drawn from successful attempts and from failures. They will focus on the following questions: How key is language to music? What are the hurdles? What are the prevalent market mechanisms in Germany? How should a Swiss band go about getting known in Germany? Is Germany in fact really all-important?

Christian Fighera, Two Gentlemen Records, Lausanne
Andres Hubmann
, Label Manager Silversonic Records / H’Art Musik, Marl, Dortmund
Eric Kramer
, Gadget, Zurich

Moderator:
Tobi Müller journalist, Berlin
The event is open to all and free of charge.

Demotape Clinic

m4music inquest of Switzerland’s best demo
The Demotape Clinic offers musicians and producers a platform to present work and get professional feedback. A pre-jury listens to every song submitted, and the best in four categories – Pop, Rock, Electronic & Urban – are invited to the Demotape Clinic’s live sessions, where a jury of bigwigs in the field publicly assess each demo: do the artists in question have what it takes for a CD deal, or live performance? How can they improve their work? What are the criteria used by music-biz professionals?
